It’s too early,” Fiona tells her daughter.

“Mommy, did you forget? “He questions
her while still putting things in the basket—Today is the picnic!

“Walk, forgive me, I had forgotten.

“Don’t worry Mommy, I’ll be back in the
afternoon,” says Camila fast, doesn’t want to waste a second

“I love you Mommy.

“And I to you little girl

Camila leaves his house loaded with a thousand
things. Before putting on his slippers he walks on the grass still a little
damp by the morning dew, inadvertently drops a sweet laugh that makes him
wrinkle his small, freckled nose.

From the gate she reaches to see the river,
closes her eyes and enjoys her canticle that invites her to go, then begins her
way, dances as if she were at a party; he’s never liked dancing like all the
other kids do.

A few steps before she arrived, she encounters
Luna, a squirrel who has become her friend since she came to live in the house.

“Cami, you’re here! Luna exclaims excitedly
that unguised immediately jumps into the basket to sniff it with its tiny nose.

“We’re going to the riverbank for our
picnic,” says Camila Feliz.

Luna arrives first and immediately begins to
remove the dried leaves. Camila puts the basket on the grass, pulls out the
tablecloth of red and white squares specially purchased for the occasion. Luna
keeps jumping for joy all over the way when she sees nuts, fruits and water.

“Well, everything’s ready,” Camila
exclaims, “but where’s Sol?

Luna has no idea what to answer, she doesn’t
know where her sister is, so she decides to climb the tree to look for her.
While He walks with his arms at his waist, as if it were a jug, check the place
with his gaze.

“I see it! “Luna exclaims,”
something happened to him because he looks scared.

“Sorry for the tardiness,” Sol
apologises, “we must be careful, on my way here, I could see Nicholas
hanging around

“Oh no! it can’t be,” luna exclaims,
terrified.

“Nicholas? “Confused Camila
asks,” he asks.

“Well, it’s the fox,” they say, his
eyes are yellow and red, he’s strong, he growls every time, and he’s also very
dangerous.

I have an idea,” Says Camila, “let’s
get grass and dried leaves to make little mountaineers around us, and when the
fox gets close, it’s sure to step on them and the sound is going to alert us
that it’s close … let’s get to work!

At the end of the job, the squirrels help Camila
get everything out of the basket for lunch with peace of mind. The softness of
the banana, the delicious taste of the walnuts and the freshness of the water
delight them.

Once the banquet is over, everyone plays, they
run all over the way. His laughter is confused with the canticle of the river;
but they no longer remember Nicholas, who from behind a tree watches over them.

“That’s good! They’ve already lay down to
rest,” Nicholas says, and stealthily approaches them, but falls into the
trap and the creaking of the leaves alerts them. Nicholas, when discovered,
runs swiftly towards them.

“Sun and Moon, get in the tree! “Order
Camila

“What about you? “He asks dismayed
sun, while Luna makes thousands of signs to tell them that Nicholas is getting
closer and closer.

“Don’t worry about me,” Warns Camila

The squirrels obey Camila, then they climb the
tree, but while still looking at their friend, although Sol refuses to follow,
and without being seen low from the back of the tree to warn Fiona, Camila’s
mother, what is happening.

“But who do we have here…,” the fox
says in his indecipherable voice, staring at Camila, letting his sharp fangs
see.

“Nicholas, I’m not afraid of you,”
Camila exclaims in a choppy voice, giving away her fear.

“You smell like fear,” Nicholas
replies.

For his part, Sol enters Camila’s house to
search for Fiona, the girl’s mother for all the rooms, until he finds her.

In a thousand ways he tries to explain to him
what’s going on with Camila, but it’s hard to understand, so the squirrel signs
him with his tail to keep him going.

Both quickly approach the river bank. Seeing the
basket roll, they fear the worst.

“I can’t believe it,” says Sol
surprised looking at Fiona

Camila, Luna and Nicolás are sitting facing the
river, laughing, talking and sharing one nut.

“Don’t worry, Nicholas is not bad at all
dangerous. No one wants to be near him because of his appearance; he’s just
looking for company,” Camila explains very seriously.

“What about his evil voice and his eyes
full of fury? Sol questions.

“It’s our imagination, we see and listen to
what we want. Look, Nicolas, this is the Sun squirrel and my mom. Don’t be
afraid.

And as in a tribe, everyone sits in a circle.
Camila asks the fox to tell her adventures in the woods. They speak until dusk,
Luna and Sol lost the war against sleep, and more than an hour ago they snored
peacefully.

“Come on, it’s too late,” Fiona says

Nicholas looks down at the ground, sadly gets up
and with his tail between his legs walks slowly into the forest. Camila wipes a
few tears from his eyes, runs after him but does not reach him.

“Nicholas returns! Fiona screams so loudly
that she wakes up the squirrels that rub her eyes. The fox stops his confused
gait.

“Daughter brings Nicholas, he is welcome in
our house and can stay with us forever.

“Really, Mommy? She asks the girl sobbing
with joy.

Without thinking twice, Nicholas runs next to
his new family, and thus start a new life

The end

NL

EINDE

CAMILA AND THE SQUIRRELS It barely dawns.
